Baudrillard
Hyperreality Theory
Baudrillard was a controversial Philosopher whose main ideas and concepts have been used to understand the effect of living in a Postmodern environment on our perceptions of reality.
His theory states that the media often perpetuates an object or individual as unrealistic, and society has begun to loose concept and understanding of reality.
It creates a new social reality, which Baudrillard terms hyperreality.
How does our trailer use this theory?
In our trailer, our main protagonist is shown to escape her kidnapper. However, this power and strength sown by Becki, although inspirational, it is an unrealistic outcome for her situation. Audiences watching our trailer may believe that everyone is able to hold such strength and resilience in such an emotionally traumatic experience, which our trailer does not show. Therefore our trailer could be seen to support the theory because it perpetuates our character as unrealistic.
