A car is essential in the narrative of our film as it is used to transport the hostage to the kidnapper's secret hideaway after she is taken.
Option 1:
Originally, we were to use a 2002, ex- military TD5 Land Rover Defender. The car being ex-military would have been effective in portraying the connotations of war, death and fear, which are significant in our film narrative as the main theme is terrorism. Therefore the car have been an effective way of presenting the themes intended in our film. However, 7 days before our filming date, the car was experiencing mechanical issues that resulted in the car being sold.
Option 2:
The second option of car we considered was again a TD5 Land Rover. However, we felt this one would be more suited for our trailer as it has no back windows. This makes the inside of the back of the car more enclosed, creating a sense of entrapment as Becki can't escape the car. The colour of the car being white also symbolised Becki's innocence and so could help the audience understand Becki better. Therefore, although our initial issue of our original car not be able to be used, I feel our second choice was actially much more effective in connoting key information from our narrative.
Gun
An air rifle 2.2 is used by the kidnappers in our trailer. The rifle was used as cinematography to create a hostile and threatening atmosphere, common themes of our trailer and the genre. It also gives the kidnappers power over Becki and the audience fear for Becki's life.

In addition, the colour being camouflage suggests an element of concealment and hiding as it is the colour used to disguise, symbolising the secrecy of the kidnap and hiding the hostage and so is another reason for our choice of gun.
Mobile phone
We will use a mobile phone as a chance for Becki to escape. She finds this mobile phone as one of her captors leaves it behind as a mistake, this is her only chance to make an escape. The captors also use the phone to communicate and take pictures of Becki in order to bribe her family.
Chair and Rope
In order to portray the idea of the girl being trapped she will be tied to a chair. This is a typical convention of the thriller horror genre in order to shock and create tension within the audience as they worry for the girls safety. The connotations of rope are that of murder and death and are often used in thriller genre films.

Although we intended to use a chair to tie Becki to, once arriving at the location we felt tieing her to the window was much more effective as it created back lighting behind her. Being so close to the window also symbolised her despair to be free.
