Claude Levi – Srauss
Strauss’ theory is that conflict is based around binary opposites, when two opposites come together and make the central climax of a narrative structure. This creates a grater meaning than if two opposites were not bought together, for example old ideas vs new ideas. These are tow binary opposites that can occur together. Combining the two causes conflict and therefore action, thus a greater impact and meaning is created.
Binary oppsites also reflects the value, beliefs and myths of a culture. For example when good and bad come together, good always triumphing over evil which creates society's value of morality.
Other examples:
Book vs Paper
Man vs Nature
Social Media vs reality
Humanity vs technology
Blonde vs brunette

Binary Opposite ideas for my trailer:
- Strength vs weakness - The girl's vulnerability, when met with the strength of her kidnapper, causes her to be taken, creating conflict and action of the kidnapping.
- Deceptiveness vs vulnerable - The villain's deceptive and secrete behaviour in fooling the girl he is a nice individual, made her feel safe and secure due to her vulnerability in trusting him. This again resulted in the action of her being kidnapped.
- Hope vs evil - The hope of Becki's family in hope of finding her, combined with the evilness of her kidnapper, may result in the anger and frustration felt by her family as they struggle to maintain hope.
- Love vs hatred - The love between Becki and her family, combined with the villain's hatred towards Becki, creates the battle between Becki wanting to escape to be re-united with her family, driven by the love, vs the villain expressing his hatred and trapping Becki from escaping to her family.
