Lighting was a key element in our trailer, whilst filming we tried various different lighting types in order to create different affects.
High Key / Bright Lighting
Bright lighting will be used in scenes such as Becki at home with her family. The bright lighting creates a happy and upbeat atmosphere, which would reflect the equilibrium of the narrative, before things go wrong. It also suggests the family's mood of happiness and content at this point in the trailer

Low Key / Dark Lighting
This is then contrasted to when Beck is kidnapped. Me and Ella decided on dark lighting in the scenes of being a hostage, for example in the bunker and back of the car. This would reflect the darkening themes and sinister aspect of the film. Low key lighting used is also a common convention of our film genre. To achieve this, we chose the bunker as it offered minimal natural lighting, and decided to film the car scene in reverse order to the narrative, so it was getting dark when we started to film.

Whilst achieving low lighting I the bunker, we also experimented adding artificial lighting to create shadows and further meaning:

Considered to create the effect of mystery. The light behind the actor is natural daylight. This signifies freedom and reality from the outside world being behind her, resembling her inability to escape.
